We asked Dr. Todd Wolynn to tell us a bit about how he’s innovating at his practice, Kids Plus Pediatrics. By investing in a studio onsite at his practice, this doctor has turned connecting into a lot of fun for everyone.

There’s lots of talk right now on the topic of “patient engagement.” Most medical practices approach this concept with nicer waiting room chairs, free WiFi, or a Patient Portal. All of those things are great, but they’re not enough — especially for the cyber, social, always-online generation now having children.

Even the practices that have doubled down on virtual connectivity with a redesigned web site or a robust social media presence, may still be missing an incredibly powerful medium for patient engagement — VIDEO!

At Kids Plus Pediatrics we believe in the ability of video to engage the senses and imaginations of our families, to inform, persuade, and entertain them in unique and immediate ways. Five years ago, we began to invest in expanding what our families heard and saw of us online.

Our first wave of video content was focused on introducing our physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners to our families. Rather than just a list of names and medical schools and residency programs, our providers opened up to our families about their hobbies, their favorite books and movies, their precious childhood memories and family traditions, engaging them in an incredibly personal, and incredibly powerful, way.

Kids Plus Q&A: Travis Lewis

The next in our series of short, fun interviews with Kids Plus Pediatrics Docs. In this installment, Travis Lewis talks about his favorite book, his favorite movies, his favorite thing about working in pediatrics, and how a family practice rotation kept him out of prison (!).

The next wave of Kids Plus video production highlighted favorite, family-friendly destinations in the Pittsburgh region. Our crowd-sourced “Kids + the Community” series takes our cameras to favorite playgrounds, restaurants, and hangouts.

Kids + The Community: Pleasant Kingdom

In the latest installment of our “Kids + The Community” series, Dr. Wolynn takes you to Pleasant Kingdom, a wonderful playground in Pleasant Hills that Kids + Parents voted as one of their favorite, family-friendly places to play in Pittsburgh.

Games and kids go together like mac and cheese, or like peanut butter and jelly. They’re a classic combination. And that’s why we’ve partnered with a great local, independent game store to highlight great games for kids in our Kids + Game of the Month series.

This month’s visit to Games Unlimited features a double-shot of really cool, developmental games for kids 18 months and up…

At our core, of course, we’re health care experts. And it’s ridiculous to think your families will soak up all the information you deliver during an office visit. More importantly — what about the information you wished you remembered to discuss, or the questions Mom or Dad forgot to ask? As a way to address those needs, and just to provide as much good information to our families as possible, we created the Kids + Daily Dose series.

The Math of Colds

In the premiere of our brand new daily web series, Dr. Wolynn explains why it seems like yours kids always have a cold in winter.

We believe so strongly in the power (and potential) of video, that last year, we built our own video production studio into one of our offices. But don’t let that scare you. If teenagers armed with a smart phone and an internet connection can post a cool video online in just a few minutes, youR practice can too. Of course, if you do want to be at least a little scared, and amused, I’ll leave you with this, our (so far) most popular video ever…
